About BP:

Beaten Path Records
is an independent record label that focuses on artistic elements of music without the input or the need of corporate influence or sponsorship. Motto: Follow the beaten path. The beaten path is best described as simply "the pathway of your soul." We found that every time we tried to do a project that wasn't from the heart, it would end up a disaster or just plain non-existent. So, from now on we always follow the beaten path…

A BP History Lesson:

In 1995 Darin Mitchell and Kris Sikes formed a band named Decision and later asked Phillip Malloy to join to help write songs and sing. The band made a single crude recording which has unfortunately, been lost in the Abyss. Decision had only one show at the Indian Springs Baptist Church lock-in, which formed a bond with the BP family that would last for over ten years. Later in 1996, Darin and Phil jammed in Phil’s basement, later known as the Dirty Dungeon, and wrote a six song set using guitars and a cheap Yamaha keyboard for percussion. Darin had remembered an old friend who played drums named Matt Outlaw and invited him to play with us. Gutterbomb was formed. Being from the small town Bryant, AR, gigs were few and far between. Kris, Darin, and Phil later decided if there wasn’t a place in town to play, we would create one. Alas, Bryant Musicfest was created. We had decided to have a music festival in Bryant’s Mills Park to promote Gutterbomb and other local acts. It was a success. Artists who have performed at Musicfest were Ben Moudy of Evanesance and Ashtray-Babyhead also known as The Kicks.

After a four year hiatus, Kris, Darin, and Phil got back together after finding a common interest in the electronic music movement. Darin and Phil wanted to compose and produce electronic and hip hop music and Kris learned the skills of being a D.J. Kris wanted to pick up were Musicfest left off in 1997, and formed the techno/Rave website The Upstairs Room. In 2001, when the rave scene in Little Rock crumbled along with The Upstairs Room, Phil formed the idea of Beaten Path Records. This was an independent record label that would give the trio an opportunity to unite all of our past projects and join them together with our present acts and projects.

After ten years of writing and recording music together Beaten Path Records was formed. This is what has evolved from Musicfest. We feel it is the best way to express all of our different musical tastes and genres in unified setting. We can now explore all aspects of music without having to worry about labels or wonder what genre of music that we will fit in to. Best of all, we finally have the wonderful opportunity of sharing our music with others and giving others the opportunity to express their art without having to worry about compromising artistic freedom. We at the Beaten Path encourage you to join us on our musical journey by enjoying our music or participating in the writing and production experience with us. If you are interested in joining the BP crew email us at beatenpathrecords@sbcglobal.net. Thank you for your visit and your time. Enjoy all of the artist and the music on this site. It is an honor for you to help us make our dream come true!
